Count Controlled Tester
Instructions for specimen setup on tests where extreme location accuracy is required.

On this type of testing, the 1/4" wide polyester tape should be used on  lettering having a width as small as 1/64".

Specimens must have two parallel sides if held on box anvil 'P'. Otherwise hold them with the universal vise or platen and use the machinist surface gauge and indicator 'Z' to indicate test area on the X & Y Axis to get test area parallel to machine base.

Use double-faced tape to secure inked lettered specimen in an appropriate position onto the 1-1/2" x 3-1/4" sheet metal rectangle (furnished).

Use two spring clamps (furnished) to secure sheet metal to box anvil so that a preliminary test may be run within 1/8" of desired test location.

Run preliminary test to the extent that measurements can be taken from it on two axis to determine distance to move sheet metal, to get to the desired test location.

Measure and record location of sheet metal on box anvil, unclamp sheet metal and move the required distance to put test in proper place and re-clamp.

Proceed with test in the normal manner.

The above has proven superior to our previous method of using a pointer, providing the technician can accurately read a good tool maker's 6" scale.
